About Kamatha Eco Lodge

 

 

 
Kamatha offers a relaxing and refreshing experience of “the real Sri Lankan life”. Our community lies a little way from the well-beaten tourist trail and yet offers access to all the wonderful sights and sounds of Sri Lanka. Kamatha is situated in Habarana , the heart of the Cultural Triangle tucked away in the midst of an ancient agricultural village and the forest.

  • Explore the cultural triangle; 

- spend the day exploring the Sigiriya Lions rock (approximately 30 minutes drive)
- Go on safari to Minneriya national park home to over 250 elephants. Witness ‘the gathering’ during August to October season. (approximately 15 minutes drive)
- Visit Kaudulla (approximately 45 minutes drive)
- Kurulu wewa Eco parks (approximately 15 minutes drive)
- Visit Ritigala Forest Monastery (approximately 30 minutes drive)
- Dabulla Cave temple (approximately 30 minutes drive)
- Visit Polonnaruwa/ Annuradapura - ancient cities (approximately 45 minutes drive)
- Trincomalee beach etc) (approximately 1.5 hours drive)
- Pasikuda / Arugam bay(approximately 1.5 hours drive)


  • Enjoy a typical Sri Lankan BBQ, with freshly caught fish from the river.
Take part in a 4x4 mud safari 














•Take advantage of the opportunity to bird watch / photograph some of Sri Lanka’s most endemic birds 


•Spend the night in our fully equipped camp site – cook your own meals (all items provided) or let our team do the hard work while you enjoy a glass of wine and star gaze. Arrival via boat or jeep.  




•Join ammay* in our kitchen – Learn about the many Sri Lankan spices and herbs which make our dishes truly unique. Learn to cook your own rice and curry and take away our complimentary spice goody bag so those at home can share a little bit of the haven you enjoyed



•Visit a typical Sri Lankan village home and enjoy a cup of tea with jaggery*  


•Mountain bike rides through the village / jungle


•Nature trails 


• Spend the night in a ‘watch hut’ keeping an eye out for elephants with just a lantern and the moonlight to keep you company



 •Read a book on a hammock or play cricket /football with the village lads.

•Go on a boat ride, pick some wild flowers and visit the local temple. Let the chanting of the evening prays engulf you in the serenity of village life.
